Dressing for the Wedding Festivities

One of the nicest gestures is being asked to be apart of someone's wedding. It means that either a family member or a good friend would like you to stand by them on the happiest day of their life. While the wedding day is by far the most important event, let’s not forget about all the events leading up until the big day. Let’s dive into some important “dress code” options for the individuals in the wedding party!

Things to Consider

From the engagement party to the wedding reception, you want to make sure you’re on your “A-game.” While assisting the bride-to-be and groom-to-be throughout all these milestone events, you’ll want to make sure you’re comfortable yet looking your best.

Bridesmaids Attire

The Engagement Party: A simple shift dress is a great option for attending the engagement party. While you don’t want to upstage the happy couple at this event, find a shift dress with a pattern or extra textures (such as ruffles) as an easy accessory that won’t get in your way as you mingle at the party.

Bachelorette Party: Discuss the itinerary with the girls before packing for your fun weekend. Whether you’re going out to a fancy dinner or enjoying a night out, pack versatile clothing options. An off-the-shoulder top is the perfect piece for pairing with jeans or a skirt for a dressy look.

The Big Day: The bride-to-be has the final say in what her bridesmaids dresses will look like. Whether it’s a particular color scheme or style of dress, she will want to make the decision. In the end, it is her special day. All that matters is that you are there for her and what you’re wearing is comfortable and photographs well.

Groomsmen Attire:

The Engagement Party: Since you’re in the wedding party, it’s best to present yourself in a classy, put-together manner. Dress pants and a classic button-down shirt are a go-to outfit for attending this type of event. Depending on the season, pick out a fun color, such as a pastel color dress shirt during the warmer months.

Bachelor Party: Like mentioned before, find out your plans for this particular weekend. Chances are the best man will have everything planned accordingly. Pack items that can be dressed up or down so the evening can take you wherever, whenever.

The Big Day: You will know what you will be wearing to the wedding in advance. If it’s a “dressy-casual” wedding, chances are you most likely will be wearing a clean-cut suit. If the wedding is “black-tie optional,” a form-fitting tuxedo is the best option. Whether you’re renting or buying your tuxedo, make sure you have it checked out by your dry-cleaner before the big day!

The perfect outfit is going to be different for each person in the wedding party. Always make sure you’re communicating with the other bridesmaids and groomsmen, to make sure you are all on the same page. If you’re unsure, discuss with the future Mr. and Mrs’s what they envision their wedding party to be wearing at each of these events.

The best part about photographing weddings is the wonderful people I meet. I enjoy the unique qualities each client brings. I love capturing different styles and client visions on camera.  Even at the same venue, every wedding is different.  Brittany wanted a "vogue" style look to her photos and brought in vintage style furniture to use in the photos which was really fun.

Located in the heart of Napa Valley, the Vintage Estates in Yountville is a fabulous location for a garden ceremony.

Weddings are held in a large garden enclave with lush lawns, brick walkways, and fountains. The Ceremony is typically beneath a wooden arbor on a brick stage, with guests seated on the lawn. Cocktail hour is just steps away on the patio!

Dinner is served right nearby on Pavilion’s brick terrace.  After Dinner, everyone heads over to the rustic-chic Barrel Room for cake cutting and dancing.
